4  DESIGNOFFIBREREINFORCEDCONCRETEUSING DRAMIXSTEELFIBRES

FibreReinforced Concrete (FRC) leads to improvements of both the strength and flexural toughnesscharacteristicsof concrete.In this investigation, theeffect of dramixsteel fibres on the compressivestrengthand flexuraltoughnessoffibrereinforced concrete wasstudiedbytargeting thecharacteristicsstrengthat7days.Designedamixtoachieve 20MPacompressivestrengthat sevendaysandaslumpof100mmforM35 gradeconcrete.Thecomparisonontheabovesaid propertiesbetweenthe specimenspreparedandfound the optimummixdesignandrequired dramixsteelfibreto reachthetargetedslumpandcompressivestrengthatsevendays.The experimentalresultsshowedthatthetargetedcompressivestrengthoffibrereinforcedconcrete about20MPawasachieved bythemixwith0.3%dramixsteelfibresforM35gradeofconcrete. Thevariationof compressivestrengthin3trialmixeswere foundupto30MPaandlesserthanrequiredworkabilityforplainconcrete,26MPaandmoreworkability obtainedbyusing0.28% dramixsteelfibrebyvolumeofcementand0.25%superplasticizerby volumeofcementand24 MPaachievedforsamequantity ofsteelfibrewithoutusingofsuperplasticizerrespectively. However,themixeswith0.28%steelfibresby volumeofcementproducednegativeeffectson requiredtargetonboththecompressivestrengthandworkability.Flexuraltoughnessalsostudies, theresultsonthetoughnessindicesshowedthatthe0.3%steelfibrebyvolumeofcementpossess nopost-cracking flexuraltoughness.Though,theflexuraldeflectionandtoughnessofthedramix steelfibrewassignificantlyenhancedby theadditionofsuperplasticizerandvariationof water/cementration;thedominance of thesteelfibre onthefirstcrack flexuraldeflectionand toughnessof0.3%steelfibresbyvolumeofcementwasevident.Themixeswith0.3%steelfibresand0.53water/cementratiooffibre reinforcedconcrete reportedtheoptimizationofstrength parameterofmix designforFRCwith20MPacompressivestrengthat7 daysandaslumpof100 mm.
