Postdoctoral Associate, Pharmacology and Chemical Biology, University of Pittsburgh, USA Biography Dr. Dushani Palliyaguru is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Upon receiving a Global Scholars academic scholarship to Clark University in Worcester, MA, USA, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Mathematics in 2009. Dr. Palliyaguru obtained her Ph.D. and a certificate in Global Health in 2016 from the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation research with Dr. Thomas W. Kensler was focused on characterizing novel Nrf2 inducers for liver disease prevention and was published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine in 2016. In addition, she has co-authored multiple peer- reviewed journal articles, held numerous leadership positions and has received several awards including the Ronald J. Thurman award from the mechanisms specialty section of Society of Toxicology. Given her deep interests in translational science, Dr. Palliyaguru now works on utilizing dietary agents for breast cancer prevention at both the pre-clinical and clinical level. A native of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dr. Palliyaguru spends her spare time working out, strength training and practicing yoga. She also enjoys communicating science to the general public through writing and raising awareness, especially on toxicology-related issues in developing nations. Her articles have been published in the Sunday Observer, a leading national news paper of Sri Lanka. Dr. Palliyaguru is dedicated to creating of a world that is cancer-free and believes that research and practice in cancer prevention will take us there.
