Biography Dr. S. Ajit is an Ayurvedacharya, a graduate of the Government Ayurvedic Medical College, University of Patiala, in North India, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) in 1978. In India, Dr. Ajit worked as a permanent employee of the Government of India as an Ayurvedic Medical Officer in the Punjab State for 19 years. In 1996, Dr. Ajit re-located to New Zealand with a dream to teach and spread authentic Ayurveda in the western world. He established Ayurvedic colleges in Australia and New Zealand, where he has taught Government approved qualifications in Ayurveda for the last 15 years. Dr Ajit is well respected by his clients for his dedication and commitment in leading them to health. His students know him as an Ayurvedic teacher who leads by example for his life is an embodiment of its ancient principles. He also opened Planet Ayurveda (www.planetayurveda.co.nz), one of the most well equipped Wellness and Spa Centres in Australasia, where Ayurvedic wellness packages, consultations and Panchkarma programmes are offered under his guidance. He is also renowned for the use of Ayurvedic counseling techniques which can achieve a physical & mental balance faster than other techniques. Presently, he is the most experienced Ayurvedic Doctor in Australasia, with over 38 years’ clinical experience. In 2003, he and his wife, Rippan Sandhu developed the Ayurda brand, an Ayurvedic skin and hair care range, based on ancient Ayurvedic texts and modern scientific techniques. The products are now marketed internationally to a range of wellness spas and beauty therapists. He is currently CEO of the International Council of Ayurvedic Medicine Inc., an organization established to standardize and streamline the educational, teaching and regulatory standards for Ayurvedic practice in the world outside of India. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America (AAPNA), developing international curriculum standards for the teaching of Ayurveda in the West. He has also recently been appointed to the Steering Committee of the International Ayurveda Alliance, an international organisation established by AYUSH to promote Ayurveda and to establish standards for its teaching and practice around the world. Dr. Ajit was also founding Patron of the Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (AAPA) and past and founding president of Australasian Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (New Zealand), both professional bodies for Ayurvedic practitioners. His efforts have been recognised with several awards, most recently a Lifetime Achievement Award from the New Zealand Charter of Health Practitioners. He is a regular keynote speaker at a number of international ayurvedic conferences, most recently, the World Ayurveda Congress (2016) in Kolkata, where he presented a paper on the future of ayurvedic teaching and practice.Website: ss
